Homework

Some grade 5's are bringing home their art project to work on it at home. It is to be returned the next day (Tuesday).

Grade 4's will be bringing home their tiny house projects to work on. They are to design and create it but not to cut it out at this point in time. They too are to bring it back to school with them.

It is a rush to get things done so many should have homework for the next little bit.

Gr 5 Field Trip - Call For Volunteers

We are in the planning stage of setting up our grade 5 field trip.  We always need our wonderful parents to help out and join us on our trips.

You must have a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) completed and brought to the school before you are allowed to join us. It has to be a vulnerable check and not a regular check.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is completing electronic VSCs within the space of 1 or 2 days, so it is quite easy to apply online (https://www.ottawapolice.ca/en/about-us/Level-3---Vulnerable-Sector-Check.aspx), and receive the completed VSC within one week.

And, a reminder that school activities fees need to be paid please. A portion of this fee goes towards covering our field trip. If not, you will need to pay the cost of your child's trip otherwise they cannot join us.

Details and dates will be sent out soon.

New Math Unit

Both classes have now wrapped up the very long unit on number sense/numeration (multiplying, division, decimal amounts, and fractions).

Most students now have their tests and should be bringing them home to show you and sign (if they haven't already).  If you have yet to see assessment go home, ask your child because they all have assessment duotangs that contain their work for you to see.

We have already started our unit on measurement and I will update the blog this weekend to let you know exactly what they are learning so you can continue to support them at home.

Grade 5 Book Club

The grade 5's are reading again and started Book Club.  The central themes this time around are empathy and the effects of bullying.  Harry Potter might be the exception to this though.

Please check in with your 5 to see which book they chose and to have them discuss it with you.

Activity Fee Reminder

Thank you to those who have paid the activity fee for their grade 5 student. That fee goes towards paying for agendas and field trips.

There are still 13 students with outstanding fees owed. Please get those fees in through Cash On Line.

Otherwise, you will have to pay the entire amount of our planned field trip in order for your child to come with us for the day.

Math Test Monday

Both classes are doing fairly well in fractions, so we are going to wrap up the unit on Monday with a test.

We will be moving into measurement and exploring perimeter and area.
