Germy Portable

There seems to be some cold viruses ripping through our portable. Kleenex are always welcomed please. Thank you to those who have helped out already by sending some in.  Since we don't have a sink to wash our hands, perhaps sending some hand sanitizer will help deal with the germs.

Unfinished Work

With a push to finish up all assigned work for report cards, both grades are responsible for completing overdue work.  More than enough time has been given in class and it is time to move on.

Please check with your student to make sure they have completed the following work:

Grade 4
Math - tiny home,  geometry photo challenge, and all work in their duotang.
Language - book club reviews, persuasive writing, fractured fairy tale

Grade 5
Math - all work in their duotang
Language - book club, fractured fairy tale

Stay Tuned - Grade 5 Field Trip

I am still working out the final details for our grade 5 field trip. Our tentative date is June 18th. Once buses are confirmed and the event is booked, the call for volunteers will be put out. We are looking at going to an escape room and archery tag. Students have already chosen their prefered activity.

Students who have paid their activity will be asked to pay approx $5 for the bus while students who have not paid their activity fee will be required to pay the cost of the trip's activity ($20) plus their share of the bus in order to go.

A portion of a student's activity fees goes towards paying for field trips. School council pays for 1 bus per grade. With the high cost of field trips and the large number of students, we are left working together to pitch in to cover the total expense. Thank you for understanding.

Math Tests

Both classes will be having geometry tests on Friday.

Grade 4 will cover:

- sorting, drawing, and comparing 2D and 3D shapes
- classifying and naming prisms and pyramids as well as nets
- symmetry
-  identifying and measuring acute, obtuse, and right angles

Grade 5 will cover:

-  sorting, drawing, and comparing 2D and 3D shapes
- classifying and naming prisms and pyramids as well as nets
-  identifying and measuring acute, obtuse, and right angles
- identifying and classifying triangles based on their sides and angles
- construct triangles given specific measurements and angles

Grade 4 True Sport Day - May 16

The grade 4's will be participating in True Sport Day over at the Deevy Pines Ball Diamond (if weather is bad they will go indoors at the Eva James Community Centre) on Thursday May 16.

This day is put on by the Bridlewood Community Centre and is for grade 4 students attending Bridlewood schools.

The event is to promote the True Sport principles of: Have Fun, Play Fair, Give Back, Respect Others, Stay Healthy, and Go For It.

Special guests that day at the event for the students will be Segun Makinde and Alex Brown-Theriault  .

Your 4's will be walking to the site before lunch (11:20) with their morning classes. Afternoon gr 4 teachers (like myself) will be taking over at lunch time to bring them back to school (around 2).

Please make sure your grade 4 has a healthy lunch, running shoes, water bottle, and is prepared for the day's weather.

Track and Field Day

Tuesday May 14 and Wednesday May 15 are junior track and field afternoons.

Students have been grouped based on their age as of June 17. They will be competing in the following events:

- ball throw
- long jump
- 100 metre
- 400 metre

Winners of each group will go on to represent St Anne at the OCSB board meet in June. Relay teams will be made up from the 4 fastest in each group.

200 metre will be by invitation another day to the fastest times from the 100 and 400 categories.

Please make sure athletes are dressed for the weather - have sunscreen, water bottle, hat, etc

Freezies will also be on sale for $1 each on both days to support our grade 6 graduation.

Jelly Bean Contest - May 14

Please support 2 of our wonderful Lions who are raising money in honour of their mother. Their mother was an incredible person and volunteer at St Anne who is already greatly missed. Please consider helping them with their donation to help fight breast cancer.

Grade 4 Snacks

We'd been doing pretty well since Christmas with the grade 4's bringing enough food for the day to get them through last snack. My snack supply for hungry grade 4's is now out so please make sure your growing grade 4's have enough to get them through the day.

Protractors

Both grades will need protractors for math over the next 2 months.  While I have some for class use, there are not enough and it's easier if your child has their own (especially for homework).
