Math Tests on Thursday
All grades will be having math tests on Thursday that cover geometry. Expectations for each grade are under their math tabs (above).

Skating Postponed
Unfortunately, the ice surface was closed this morning and remains closed.

Language Update
All 3 grades are finishing up their book club work. Unfortunately, it has taken much more time than I have wanted it to take. This was all suppose to be wrapped up by Christmas.
This is the absolute last week that in class time will be given to complete these tasks. Students should have finished reading their book, written a summary, and completed a project task. Please check in with your child to make sure they have finished these things.
Also a friendly reminder to spend time reading with your child, especially if they are not a strong reader. By this age they should be able to recognise and read sight words.

Math Updates
All 3 grades started geometry when we got back from the break. You will find the expectations for each grade under their tabs.
Geometry is a fun strand and is easy for you to find real world examples to point out to your child.
- have fun with shapes in your surrounds. Point them out, name them, count their faces, vertices,
edges, sides.
- find parallel and perpendicular lines
- look at architecture, houses, structures and discuss why certain shapes were used in their design
- find angles
- look at construction sites and point out benchmark angles and shapes
- look up at the stars
- play pool or mini golf with them
- sports
This is our final strand for the first term.

Grade 4/5 Math Update
With the exception of 3 students (who didn't turn in their books), all their math tests and class work is marked and assessed.
A reminder that every student has an assessment folder that they bring home to show you and have signed.
There have been a few parent questions about homework. My policy is that any work not finished in class is to be taken home and completed. It is the student's responsibility to bring that work home, finish it, and bring it back to class. Some still seem not to be able to fulfill that responsibility.
Please ask to see their math books from time to time to check if they should be doing homework.
Now is a perfect time to ask for those books. Nearly every single student has unfinished work that needs to be completed. We are in the last push to finish all work before term 1 finishes and report cards go out.
